Finance Keeper ("the App", "we", "us") helps users track expenses by processing financial SMS messages directly on their device. This Privacy Policy explains what information we access, how it is used, and your rights regarding your data.
1. Information We Access
SMS and Transaction Data
- Permission: READ_SMS
- The App reads financial transaction SMS messages stored on your device (such as debit, credit, UPI, and bank alerts) to automatically detect and categorize expenses.
- Relevant message details such as sender name, message content, date/time, and transaction amount may be processed for expense tracking purposes.
SMS content is processed entirely on your device. We do not transmit, store, sell, or share SMS content with external servers or third parties.
The App does not send SMS messages, receive SMS messages in real time, modify messages, or act as a default SMS handler.
Notifications
- Permission: POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+)
- Used only to send optional reminders, summaries, or alerts related to expense tracking.
- Notification permission is optional and can be disabled at any time in Android Settings.
Analytics & Crash Reporting
- We use Firebase Analytics to understand app usage in aggregate form.
- We use Firebase Crashlytics to detect and fix technical issues.
- These services may collect anonymous device identifiers, app interaction data, crash logs, and diagnostics.
- We do not intentionally send SMS content or financial transaction data to these services.
2. How We Use Information
- To import and categorize financial transactions
- To generate reports, insights, and summaries
- To improve app reliability and performance
We do not sell personal information.
3. Data Storage and Retention
- All primary transaction data is stored locally on your device.
- Optional backups are saved to a file selected by the user.
- No financial data is stored on our servers.
- Data remains until deleted by the user or the app is uninstalled.
4. Data Sharing
We share limited technical data only with service providers necessary to operate the App:
- Google Firebase Analytics
- Google Firebase Crashlytics
We do not share user financial SMS data with third parties for marketing, profiling, or data brokerage.
5. Security
We use Android’s secure permission model and encrypted network connections for data transmitted to Firebase services. All financial transaction data remains stored locally on your device.
6. User Rights & Data Deletion
Finance Keeper does not create user accounts and does not store financial data on external servers.
How to Delete Your Data
- Delete Local App Data: Uninstalling the App permanently deletes all locally stored transaction data, SMS processing data, and notes.
- Delete Backup Files: If you created a manual backup file, you must delete that exported file manually using your device's file manager.
- Revoke Permissions: You may revoke SMS or notification permissions anytime in Android Settings.
Analytics Data
The App uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics. These services may collect anonymous technical data such as device identifiers, crash logs, and app interaction events.
Uninstalling the App stops further analytics collection and resets the Firebase Installation ID associated with your device.

7. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for users aged 18 and above and is not directed to children under 13.
8. Backup Files & Deletion
The App allows users to create optional local backup files of their transaction data. These backups are:
- Stored only on the user's device in a location selected by the user;
- Not uploaded to our servers;
- Not accessible to the Developer.
Uninstalling the App does not automatically delete manually exported backup files. Users are responsible for deleting exported backup files if no longer needed.
9. Policy Updates
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Updates will be reflected by revising the Effective Date above.
